What is Midi? MIDI is an acronym
for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. In computer science,
a serialinterface standard that allows for the connection of music
synthesizers, musical instruments, and computers. Using MIDI,
computers, synthesizers, and sequencers can communicate with each
other. The standardization of MIDI by the major synthesizer manufacturers
is partially responsible for the huge success of computers in
the music profession. It allows musicians to be more creative
on stage and in the studio. It also allows musicians to distribute
music in a standard format
What does this mean for us? Well, if your a kid like me it
doesn't mean all that much. The only thing I can use midi for
is to embed sounds into my web page, and give them a bit of a
personal touch! I mean let's face it, if I want to listen to my
favorite band, I'm going to buy the CD. You won't catch me banging
my head to a midi! On the other hand, midi to a musician has become
a huge deal. It gives a musician another medium of which to work
with. It allows them to be creative on a www level.
The Question everyone wants to know I'm sorry but no. You cannot
convert a wav file to a midi file, because the wav file does not
say which note to play. The way to make a midi file is to play
it on a synthesizer, create it with your mouse on a computer with
sequence software, or to use other midi devices, such as guitar
midi converters.
